New Work Health and Safety Codes to Come Into Effect From 1st October 2016

A new package of work health and safety codes of practice will come into effect in Tasmania on and from the 1st of October 2016.

It will replace the current Construction Work code of practice under the Tasmanian Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (WHS Act).

Key changes made to the Code are the inclusion of:

  • examples throughout the Code relevant to housing construction work;
  • clarification of terms used in the Code such as “housing construction work”, “builder” and “owner-builder”
  • a revised safe work method statement template to clarify its use specifically for high risk construction work
  • a work health and safety management plan template
  • additional guidance on the duties of designers
