CCF Tasmania launched a new “Women in Civil” program on 8 March at Sorell. Information sessions were held regarding the pre-employment program that is being offered, thanks to funding from the Tasmanian Government. CCF Tasmania, partnering with TasTAFE, SERDA and TasNetworks, are delivering a pre-employment training program for 10 women to upskill them to obtain employment in civil construction. The women will receive a broad range of accredited and non-accredited training, including obtaining their Medium Rigid Licence and Traffic Control qualifications. They will also receive safety training from TasNetworks and on using plant and equipment. First aid, interviewing skills and resume writing are also included, along with 2 weeks work experience with a host employer.
Interest in the program was phenomenal, with both sessions attracting around 80 women who are interested in joining the industry. We are being flooded with applications so selecting the successful participants will be the next challenge.
