Prequalified Tasmanian Contractors who may be affected as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a prequalified contractor with the Department of State Growth (Department), the following provides you with some important changes and key points with regards to the Department’s Roadworks Roundup process.

Requirements for the Roadworks Roundup have been recently updated and are now included in the Standard Specification Clause 160.49A as follows.

The Principal maintains a Roadworks Roundup published on the Transport Services website every Monday morning that advises the community of scheduled works taking place on the State road network over a two-week period – see

The Contractor must submit to the Principal details of new works or amendments to existing works that require traffic management by COB Wednesday of every week (submission day) such that the works can be included in the Roadworks Roundup that will be published the following Monday.

The Contractor shall not commence work where the traffic management details have not been submitted to the Principal and where scheduled to commence prior to 12 days following the submission day.

The new draft version of the Roundup is circulated among the Department’s representatives in project services, network management and asset management on Monday (or the first business day) of each week for new works to be entered, or existing works to be amended.

This will be the requirement ongoing, however from 1 April 2020 until 30 June 2020 the Department is temporarily relaxing the minimum requirements for notifying the general community about new scheduled road works. This temporary change is to assist contractors to expedite works while there are generally lower traffic volumes across the network.

Key Points:

  1. From 1 April 2020 until 30 June 2020 contractors must continue to submit details of works to be included in the Roadworks Roundup by COB each Wednesday.
  2. From 1 April until 30 June 2020, each Wednesday (submission day) contractors can submit details of works to commence on or after 7 days following the submission day.

Further to this, Traffic Engineering have implemented revised guides regarding works impacting State Roads in the Greater Hobart area, relaxing restrictions previously in place.

In summary:

  • No lane closures permitted for any Greater Hobart road during morning and afternoon peak on weekdays (6:30am to 9:30am, 3:00pm to 6:30pm), however temporary traffic management with reduced speed limit may apply;
  • Outside of Morning Peak (6:30am to 9:30am) and Afternoon Peak (3:00pm to 6:30pm) during weekdays and on weekends, a single lane closure on any Greater Hobart road may be permitted;
  • Closure of multiple lanes (i.e on Davey and Macquarie Street) to be assessed on a case by case basis; and
  • Existing arrangements for restriction of roadworks on Tasman Bridge to apply.

Applications will still need to be considered on their merits, and conditions for maximum delays to traffic, as a result of planned works, must also be complied with.
